Just a friendly announcement on a local event for a great cause.

Please join the Montgomery County Police Department on DECEMBER 20TH in giving the gift of life by donating blood in honor of Officer Noah Leotta.

As you may know, nearly two years ago in December of 2015, Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta was struck and killed by a drunk driver while performing a field stop. As a result, The Drunk Driving Reduction Act of 2016 [Also known as “Noah’s Law”] was named for him. The law protects Marylanders and makes our roadways safer by significantly expanding Maryland’s Ignition Interlock Program in order to help keep drunk drivers off our roads. An ignition interlock is a device that prevents a vehicle from starting when it detects a certain level of alcohol on the driver’s breath. Senate Bill 945 was signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan on May 19, 2016, and took effect promptly on October 1, 2016.

While at times it can be found disheartening that in some cases these types of programs are put into law under the most tragic of circumstances, we can all find solace in knowing that even more measures have now been put into place to help prevent these types of tragedies from happening again. We salute Officer Leotta, we thank him for his service, and we at SOS Safe Ridewill certainly do our part to prevent this from affecting another family and community in the way that it affected this brave man’s. Please attend this event, and give the gift of life in honor of a life that was taken from us.
